Spanish Grand Prix – Barcelona

The Spanish Grand Prix is hosted at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. This is a very familiar circuit for F1 teams as not only has it been on the F1 calendar since 1991 but the teams also are permitted to conduct testing at the track each season. In 2013 Barcelona was the final Winter testing location.

One of the many great features at the Circuit de Catalunya is the great mix of high speed and low speed corners with a track surface that is has a few more bumps in it that more other tracks on the calendar. The Spanish GP is renown for being particular hard on tyre wear and with the wind changes that often cut across the circuit, team often find it difficult to nail the right setup.

Though overtaking opportunities at Circuit de Catalunya are very few and far between there is however with the new DRS rules in action make getting a fast exit out of the final corner vital, in order to hit top speed through the start-finish straight which will often lead to an overtaking opportunity either via the DRS open on the straight or by breaking late into turn one. Keep your eyes peeled for such moves the next time the race comes along.
